Leadership Worthington Graduates Class of 1996

Richard B. Anda
Regional Manager, Trugreen-Chemlawn
Rich has worked for Chemlawn since 1975 and was responsible as Vice President for total operations over one third of the United States and then later for developing new service offerings and programs nationwide. He graduated from Michigan State University with a M.S. in Crop Science/Turfgrass Management. Rich was named to "Who's Who in America". His major volunteer activity at this time is with the YMCA as Indian Guides Chief. Rich and his wife Diane are active with Worthington Presbyterian Church. Rich says, "Community service is now a priority time commitment for me."

Veronica L. Baldwin
Pre-K/Kindergarden Teacher, Learning Unlimited Schools
Veronica attended Thomas Worthington High School and graduated from The Ohio State University. She is a gymnastics coach, ski club advisor, and volunteer at many school-related events. Her community activites include Meals on Wheels, St. Peter's Church, People to People Ambassador program, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Back in the Worthington Ccommunity after several years away Veronica wants to learn more about the community and leadership opportunities.

Jane Chapman
President, Gemini Management Systems, Inc.
Jane graduated from the University of Illinois after attending the University of Chicago and Ohio Wesleyan University. Her company is an administrative service featuring personalized billing, reporting and practice management for health care practices. Jane was Chairman of the Worthington Arts Council Performance Series and Folklife Fest for three years. She has also been active with Buckeye Boys Ranch Service Board, the Worthington Songsters, and the Northwest Worthington Civic Association. Jane has three children, Graham, Ralph, Jr., and Pam and a doberman, Heidi. She loves gardening, reading, feeding the birds, sewing, knitting, antiques, and learning.

Scott J. Doellinger
Vice President, Healthcare Planning, Design Group, Inc.
Scott graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. and M.S. in architecture. He is a past president of the Centennial Kiwanis, a member of St. John's Church and The Columbus Chapter and National Academy of Architecture for Health of the American Institute of Architects. Scott and his wife live in a self-built home with their two children, Jeff, a junior at Thomas Worthington High School and Kurt, a fourth grader at Wilson Hill Elementary School.

Cynthia P. Dykes
Cynthia has previously worked for the Worthington Public Library as Circulation Assistant and at the Narragansett Electric Company as a consultant. She has done graduate work at the University of Rhode Island in the School of Library and Information Science and graduated from the University of Massachusetts. Cynthia is President of the Worthington Kilbourne High School Trackbackers. Her other volunteer activities include Woods of Josephinum Civic Association, Worthington Public Library Friends, Choices for Domestic Violence, and TWIG 226 of Children's Hospital. Cynthia is looking forward to expanding her knowledge of community resources.

Karen J. Garvin
Sales Representative, Title First Agency, Inc.
Karen is an alumna of Ohio University with a degree in Communications. Her major volunteer role at this time is with the Greater Worthington Area Real Estate Association facilitating the yearly directory and coordinating the organization's insurance and weekly tour sheets. She is also active with the Clintonville-Beechwold Homes Tour (Treasurer/Ticket Chair), Women's Council of Realtors (Governing Board), Columbus Mortgage Bankers Association (Programing/Membership Chair), and the Worthington Chamber of Commerce. Karen and her husband Jeff reside in Columbus-Worthington community and enjoy outdoor activities such as skiing and golf.

Paul J. George
Real Estate Consultant, Realtor, King Thompson/Holzer Wollam
Paul graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Business Marketing. For ten years he was the owner/operator of The Home Market/Georges Market. Paul would like to give something back to the community and learn more about Worthington.

Katherine E. Hancock
Financial Coordinator, Albright, Albright, & Schnulo
Kathy has attended Kent State University and The Ohio State University takingf speech and hearing therapy and business courses. She gets very motivated when she is helping a comp[any grow and develop. Kathy has worked with McCord Middle School PTA chaparoning school dances, taking library inventory, and various other volunteer jobs. She participated in The Ohio State University community clean-up day. Kathy is looking forward to learning more leadership techniques to help her in her job and volunteer activities. Kathy, her husband, and daughter enjoy movies and bookstores. They are big OSU fans; their dog is named Brutus.

Brenda K. Hastedt
Brenda is a graduate of Ohio University and the Mount Carmel School of Medical Technology. She has worked as a medical technologist in hospitals in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. As a community volunteer Brenda has been active with Meals on Wheels, the American Diabetes Association, St. Peter's Catholic Church, and the Worthington schools. She is eager to learn more about Worthington and to explore her own leadership skills. Brenda and her husband Randy have three children.

Scott D. Hrabcak
Principle, Group One Realty, Inc.
Scott graduated from Franklin University with a B.A. in Marketing/Administration. In 1994 he won the Columbus Real Estate Exchangers Award. He also had the 1993 Project of the Year in the National Exchange Club. Scott is very involved with the Worthington Chamber of Commerce and this year chairs the Small Business Assistance Committee. He also has positions of leadership with the Franklin University Alumni Association and Columbus Commercial Industrial and Investment Realtors Association.

Lawrence E. Klabunde
Director of Bands, Thomas Worthington High School, Worthington Public Schools
Larry has been a band director ever since his graduation from Wheaton College with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He also has a Master of Music Education degree from The Ohio State University . His current position requires that he administrate and teach over 200 high school musicians as well as assist in the development of two middle school band programs. For related work in these areas Larry won school district Innovation Awards in 1992 and 1993. He is active with the Linworth Road Community Church as a high school youth leader and adult Bible classes. Other interests include Franklin County United Way (Teacher-in-the-Workplace), Ohio Music Education Association, and the Worthington Area Jaycees. Larry has been married to Donna for 14 years. They are parents to 19 month Joshua David.

Veronica M. Knuth
Manager, Compensation/Benefits, Victoria's Secret Stores
Veronica graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Accounting. She volunteers as a committee member for Young Philanthropists for Vision and is a member of the American Compensation Association, Society for HR Management, the American Management Association and the Soaring Eagles Investment Club. She and her husband Jim enjoy skiing and traveling.

Mary Landers
Vice President/Owner, Landers and Associates
Mary received her law degree from Case Western Reserve after certification as a C.P.A. and graduation from Indiana State University . Mary sits on the Worthington Municipal Development Commission and the Architectural Review Board. She is a member of the Thomas Worthington High School P.T.O., Worthington Community Coordinating Board, and Cardinal Pride Committee. She is a member of the Corporations Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association and a delegate to the Corporate Council Board of Governors. Her current goal is to help contain and reduce substance abuse in our schools by building respect and pride among students and the community. Mary considers her highest responsibility her family and her greatest career achievement the balancing of family and a challenging career. Mary and her husband and partner, Rich, have three daughters, Christine, Sarah and Katherine. Katherine is a freshman at Thomas Worthington High School.

Diana L. Lantz
Secretary, The Ohio State University, College of Agricultural Economics
Diana has spent most of her professional career in health services and has been a volunteer member of many work-related committees involving children, parenting and volunteerism. While a board member of Care After School, Inc., the program won the national award from Good Parenting Magazine in 1994. Diane is the Committee chairperson for her son's Cub Scout Pack 234 and is also an assistant den leader. She is pursuing a degree in Agricultural Education at The Ohio State University. Her hobbies include music, reading and gardening. She has been married to her husband Mark Kossmann for 14 years.

Heather L. McCauley
Bank Office Manager, Huntington National Bank
Heather graduated from The Ohio State University in businesss administration with a majer in human resource management. In 1993, she graduated from Capital University with a M.B.A. while working full time at the bank. She is an active member of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce coordinating and planning the quarterly and annual luncheons. Heather also volunteers for St. Joseph's Church and Worthington Christian Village Retirement Community. Karen was married recently to Tom who works for Cardinal Health in Dublin.

Arthur W. Richey II
Vice President/Branch Manager, Schoedinger and Company
Art attended Miami University and is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College of Mortuary Science. He considers his highest responsibility that of helping people at a crucial time in their lives. His major volunteer role at this time is as Chairman of the American Red Cross Tissue Services Advisory Committee. He was named American Red Cross Volunteer of the Year in 1991. Art belongs to numerous community organizations and is past president of the Worthington and Northeast Columbus Optimist Club.

Rebecca Sue Rogers
Catering Sales Manager, Sheraton Suites Columbus
Becky considers her highest achievement that of successfully raising a family, restarting a career, and organizing and helping run a community organization. That organization is TWIG II, Marion, Ohio, Well Baby Clinic, where Becky raised monies for operations through a charity ball, as well as hired doctors, nurses, and administrative staff for the clinic. Although Becky has just moved to Worthington, she is looking forward to learning more about the community and how she can become more active.

James D. Sauer
Vice-President, Design Group, Inc.
As a project manager for Design Group, Jim has completed nearly $100 million in new constructionover the last five years. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in architecture and has served on the board of the Construction Specifications Institute, Ohio Chapter. Jim has been particularly active in church affairs. He is treasurer of the Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of Ohio, which operates five camps in Ohio. As a board member he helped develop the organizational structure. He has also been president of Gethsemane Lutheran Church congregation and the Lady Cardinal Kickers (Thomas Worthington High School soccer parents).

Karl G. Schneider
Sales Agent, Cam Taylor Company
Karl was born and raised in Worthington. After graduation from The Ohio State University, he got into food services in a big way: Red Lobster, York Steak House, Affairs Unlimited, and Colorado Rose management and catering. Karl considers the management of over 100 empoyees in the food service industry his biggest challenge. His major volunteer role at this time is with Pheasants Forever helping photograph functions and assisting with fundraising. Karl says that he really appreciates what Worthington can mean to a family and looks forward to becoming more involved in the community.

Jordana Y. Shakoor
Founder/Director, JYS Consultants PosiPower Concepts
Jordana's motivational and training company designs PosiPower Workshops for schools, agencies, and businesses in the following areas: Customer Service Training, Positive Thinking, Cultural Diversity, and Positive Conflict Resolution. PosiPower workshops are designed to help individuals feel positive about themselves, become more productive in school, at work and in their lives in general. As a free-lance writer, Jordana has published articles on self-esteem, cultural diversity issues and has designed booklets espousing positive thinking concepts. She is an alumna of The Ohio State University, a former Brownie leader, former vice-president of the Worthington Alliance of Black Parents, an active volunteer with The Columbus Contionental Society, an organizer of Songs of Worthington, and a member of the Huntington Roudtables, an organization for women business owners. Jordana is a divorced parent with two children: Ali, a senior at OSU, and Key, a junior at Worthington Kilbourne.

Bryon K. Spicer
President/Owner, Call Insurance Agency, Inc.
Bryon was educated in Ohio and Texas. Before moving to Worthington he was active in the American Red Cross as a CPR trainer, Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Springfield Jaycees, where he received the Outstanding JC of the Year and twice was honored with the Outstanding Men of America award.

Magda G. VanFossen
Branch Manager, National City Bank
Magda graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Since that time she has taken post-graduate work in accounting and finance. Her unique management position is as an officer with two bank branches in the Worthington-Dublin areas. Magda is a member of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Dublin Women in Business, and has been active with Adopt-a-School (Westerville), Prevent Blindness Ohio, and Junior Achievement. She would like to become more involved with an organization who benefits the community.

Jordy L. Ventresca
Community Resource Librarian, Worthington Public Library
Jordy has her M.L.S. from Kent State University after graduating from The Ohio State University. She has been the Assistant Branch Manager at Columbus Metropolitan Library, and held positions at the Worthington Public Library including Assistant Director of Public Services. Currently, she is a team member selecting the core collection of 100,000 books for the new Northwest Library. Jordy would like to learn how the Library can better respond to the community's requests for local information,. She serves on the American and Ohio Library Associations, Worthington Historical Society, and Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums Board of Trustees. Jordy has been married to her husband Jim for 27 years and she likes to read and cook.

Steven A. Walter
Sales Manager, Residence Inn by Marriott
Steven graduated from Tiffin University with a B.A. in Business Administration. He co-developed the Marriott "Front & Center" customer service program, has received several recognition awards from Marriott and has been asked by other Residence Inn hotels to be an information resource. Steven is a trustee of the Colonial Hills Civic Association and helps with the annual membership drive, the 4th of July and Halloween Celebrations, and the college scholarship committee. He is also a volunteer with St. Michaels Church and the Children's Miracle Network.

Kelly S. Wegley
High School English Teacher, Worthington Public Schools
Kelly graduated from Pennsylvania State University as a Phi Beta Kappa with degrees in English and Secondary Education. She is part of a team that plans, promotes, and leads weekly educaitonal, social, and service activities for youth at the Worthington United Methodist Church. Kelly has also been very active with the Crisis Intervention Hotline and as a youth mediation trainer. She is interested in increasing interaction between youth and other community members. Kelly's hobbies include aerobics, weightlifting, swimming, playing the flute, and reading. Kelly has been married to her husband Pete for four years and they are expecting their first child in December.

G. Steven Weislogel
Senior Auditor, Banc One Corporation
Steve is a Worthington High School and Miami University graduate. He was chosen by the management of Ernst and Young to be part of a select group to re-engineer the firm's audit approach through the integration of people, processes, and technology. Steve joined Banc One Corporation Internal Audit Department on July 24, 1995. He has been assistant coach for the Upper Arlington Little League Baseball program, and a volunteer for the re-election of Judge Arthur Ney, Jr. (Hamilton County) and FirstLink fundraising programs. Steve is interested in becoming more involved with our community and especially working on the group project.

Katherine M. Weislogel
Bankmart Manager, Fifth Third Bank
Katherine is a graduate of Miami University with a degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations. She is a member of Junior League of Columbus and has volunteered in the past for Race for the Cure, March of Dimes "Walk America", Oktoberfest, the re-election of Judge Arthur Ney, Jr. (Hamilton County) and FirstLInk volunteer services. Katherine is interested in honing her communication and presentation skills as well as increasing her awareness of Worthington tradition. Katherine is joining Leadership Worthington with her husband Steven.

Amy L. Wentz
Controller, Buckeye Heating and Cooling
Amy grew up in Worthington and graduated from Indiana University with B.S. in Accounting and an M.B.A. in Management Information Systems. She spent six years in Chicago as a computer systems consultant before returning to Ohio two years ago. She is currently the Controller for her family's business. Amy is active with the Junior League of Columbus, and she volunteers at FirstLink answering their Food Referral Line.
